Biography

Professor Dan Palermo is a leading academic in the field of Structural Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering, York University. He has held the position of Deputy Provost Markham and has a distinguished career in academia, previously serving as a faculty member at the University of Ottawa from 2005 to 2013 and at the University of Calgary in 2004. Dr. Palermo is recognized for his expertise in characterizing Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete and Engineered Cementitious Composites, as well as his contributions to nonlinear finite element analysis for reinforced concrete structures. His work includes studying the impacts of tsunami-induced loading on structures. In recognition of his teaching excellence, he was awarded the York University President’s University-Wide Teaching Award in 2018 and was distinguished as a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering.
