Dr. Dan Romanyk

Biography

Dan Romanyk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, with a cross-appointment in Biomedical Engineering and an adjunct appointment in the School of Dentistry. He completed his PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Alberta. His primary research areas focus on the mechanical characterization of natural and synthetic biomaterials in the craniofacial environment, and he studies the biomechanics of orthodontic treatments. His work is significant in understanding the interactions between biological tissues and orthodontic appliances, a crucial aspect for improving treatment outcomes. He leads research initiatives aimed at advancing the field of craniofacial biomechanics, contributing valuable insights into how mechanical forces affect the development and treatment of craniofacial conditions. Romanyk is actively involved in collaborative research and educates future engineers on the principles of biomechanics and biomedical engineering.
