Biography

Dan Santos is a Research Fellow at the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) since 2022. He earned his PhD and MA in Geography from Clark University, as well as BA (Hons) in Environmental Studies and BSc in Genetics Environmental Science from the University of Melbourne. Previously, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School within the Program on Science, Technology, and Society during 2020-21, and worked as a Research Teaching Assistant at Monash University and the University of Melbourne in human geography and bioethics. His research interests encompass the political economic dimensions of public engagement with emerging biotechnologies, particularly focusing on themes of openness and innovation. Santos has conducted empirical research in areas like synthetic biology and biohacking, with his work situated at the intersection of science communication, science and technology studies, and economic geography.
