Dr. Dan Tokaji

Biography

Dan Tokaji is the Fred W. & Vi Miller Dean and Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he has served as dean since 2020. Previously, he was on the faculty of Ohio State University, where he held the position of Associate Dean and the Charles W. Ebersold & Florence Whitcomb Ebersold Professor of Constitutional Law. Throughout his academic career, he has taught a diverse array of courses including Civil Procedure, Civil Rights Lawyering, Comparative Constitutional Law, Election Law, and Voting Rights. As a leading authority in Election Law, Tokaji's scholarship tackles critical subjects such as voting rights, free speech, and democratic inclusion. He has authored over 50 law review articles and published notable works including "Election Law, Democracy, Legal Education" and "Election Law: Cases and Materials." Tokaji graduated summa cum laude with an A.B. from Harvard College and earned his J.D. from Yale Law School. He has contributed to public discourse on election law and voting rights, being quoted in major media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and National Public Radio. Additionally, he has practiced as a civil rights lawyer, focusing on issues of free speech and racial justice.
