Biography

Dan Wills graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (First Class Honours) in 2010. He has extensive clinical experience across various settings, including large and small animal practices, shelter/charity practices, and tertiary-teaching facilities. Dan completed his PhD in 2024 at UNSW Sydney, focusing on thermal exposure in bone drilling during surgical trauma and osteosynthesis. Currently, he holds the position of Head Veterinary Surgeon Lecturer at the Surgical Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (SORL) within UNSW's School of Clinical Medicine. Dan's research encompasses preclinical studies, health, and welfare stewardship regarding research animals, and he is involved in teaching and supervising clinicians, trainees, and students. He is passionate about supporting local veterinary practices and communities through the provision of referral orthopaedic services and consultancy in continuing education. His research interests primarily include orthopaedics, minimally invasive surgery, osseointegration, and bone healing, positioning him to uniquely contribute to the SORL research team, which focuses on improving clinical outcomes through innovative strategies and technologies.
