Dr. Dana Cavallo

Biography

Dana Cavallo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. She is a licensed clinical psychologist with a strong background in clinical school psychology, having earned her PhD from Hofstra University in 2003 and a Master's degree from Fairfield University in 1992. Since joining Yale School of Medicine in 1995, she has engaged in numerous clinical trials focusing on adult and adolescent addiction, particularly involving adolescent tobacco use cessation. Her research interests encompass various aspects of addiction in teens and adults, while she integrates educational efforts teaching behavioral modalities essential for addiction medicine, particularly in managing chronic pain through behavioral therapy. As a clinician, she specializes in delivering Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), working directly with patients at the YNHH Spine Center and overseeing community-based interventions aimed at high schools. She educates residents in Primary Care settings on approaches to addiction recovery, demonstrating her commitment to improving public health outcomes through focused research and clinical practice.
