Dana Cuff is a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at UCLA and the director of cityLAB, an award-winning think tank that advances experimental urbanism and architecture. Cuff has published and lectured widely on topics including spatial justice, the architectural profession, and affordable housing. She is the author of the book "Provisional City" which addresses postwar housing in Los Angeles and has co-authored "Urban Humanities: New Practices Reimagining City," documenting collaborative, cross-disciplinary research at UCLA funded by the Mellon Foundation. Cuff's design research led to the co-authorship of a landmark bill permitting 'backyard homes' for nearly 8 million single-family properties in California, significantly impacting suburban density. She is deeply engaged in creating new forms of affordable housing co-located with schools and has recently initiated a satellite center in underserved neighborhoods of Los Angeles to foster community exchange and demonstrate ways humanistic design can create compassionate cities. Cuff has received recognition for her work, including the Women in Architecture Activist of the Year award and the International Prize for Researcher of the Year.
