Biography

Dana Dabiri joined the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Washington in the winter of 2002. He completed his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego in 1985, followed by a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 1992. His research has focused on developing Digital Particle Image Thermometry Velocimetry methods to study thermally-varying and temporally evolving flows. Dabiri has also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Research Scientist at Caltech's Graduate Aeronautics Laboratories, where he researched free-surface interactions and near-surface turbulence, while developing novel diagnostic methods for fluid dynamics. His research interests include experimental studies of fundamental fluid flows and advanced quantitative flow imaging techniques. He significantly contributed to the development of the DPIV (Digital Particle Image Velocimetry) technique and its 3-component version (DDPIV), enabling comprehensive analysis of time-evolving fluid flow fields. Currently, he is developing innovative methods for 2D and 3D Particle Tracking Velocimetry and exploring applications in aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, laminar and turbulent boundary layers, transition, separation, flow control, and turbulence modeling.
