Biography

Professor Dana D. Dlott received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in 1974 and completed his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1979. He joined the faculty at the University of Illinois in 1979. His research interests encompass chemical physics and physical materials chemistry, focusing on the understanding of the dynamical behavior of molecules in condensed matter, crystalline solids, glasses, polymers, biopolymers, and liquid surfaces. Professor Dlott's work on femtosecond laser spectroscopy has led to insights into energy transfer in molecular systems, high-performance nanotechnology propellants, and the dynamics of materials under shock compression. His research employs advanced femtosecond spectroscopic techniques to explore energy generation and storage at the molecular level, aimed at developing materials capable of storing and releasing significant amounts of energy. He is also involved in studying the behavior of materials under extreme conditions and has developed innovative methods for probing these materials with high temporal and spatial resolution. Professor Dlott has received several awards, including the ACS Physical Chemistry Division Award in 2013 and was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2005. His contributions to the field have positioned him as a leading figure in the study of chemical reaction dynamics and shock compression science.
