Dana Small is a psychologist and neuroscientist with graduate degrees in Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology from McGill University. Her research focuses on understanding sensory and metabolic neural signals integrated to determine food choices and the dysregulation of systems that contribute to the development of obesity, diabetes, and cognitive impairment. Her group primarily employs neuroimaging, neuropsychological, and metabolic methodologies in humans; however, they also collaborate with basic research labs at Yale and abroad to use a translational approach to pursue mechanistic questions in rodent models relevant to findings in humans. As an experienced mentor, she has trained 5 PhD students, 12 post-doctoral fellows, and 40 undergraduates and medical students. Her lab has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 2003. In addition to her activities at Yale, Dana is involved in several initiatives aimed at advancing knowledge and treatment in diabetes and obesity.
