Dr. Danae Elon

Biography

Danae Elon is an award-winning filmmaker, producer, and cinematographer based in Montreal. She graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she developed a body of work that explores the relationship between personal and political narratives through intimate and powerful storytelling. Her thesis film, Forever (1996), won the Golden Spire at the San Francisco International Film Festival and an Achievement Award at the Chicago International Film Festival. Her feature documentary, Road Home (2004), premiered at Tribeca and was screened internationally at IDFA, Hot Docs, and numerous other festivals, while her work Partly Private (2009) won an award at the New York Documentary Tribeca Film Festival. Additionally, P.S. Jerusalem (2015) was selected for Berlinale and the Toronto International Film Festival, reinforcing her reputation as a bold voice in personal documentaries. Her subsequent films, including Patriarch’s Room (2017) and Sister’s Song (2018), have received multiple accolades. The upcoming feature Rule Stone (2024) has been selected for top global festivals, marking her continued presence in the documentary film scene. Elon is also a recipient of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in Film (2009) and has received support from numerous institutions, fostering her unique vision that bridges the personal and the political.
