Dr. Danail Stoyanov

Biography

Professor of Robot Vision in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (UCL), Danail Stoyanov is also the Co-Director of the UCL Hawkes Institute and holds the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies. He is a fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Institute of Engineering and Technology, the Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Stoyanov studied Computer Systems Electronics at King's College London and completed his PhD in Computer Science at Imperial College London, specializing in medical image computing. His research primarily focuses on the development of surgical robotics and artificial intelligence to improve minimally invasive interventions. Over the years, he has held various academic positions at UCL, progressing from Lecturer to Associate Professor and now to Professor. Additionally, he has served in significant roles outside academia, such as Chief Scientist for Digital Technologies at Medtronic and as Director of the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional Surgical Sciences. His work consistently bridges the gap between engineering and clinical applications, contributing to advancements in healthcare through technology.
