Dr. Dani Bassett

Biography

Dani S. Bassett is a professor with primary appointment in Bioengineering and secondary appointments in Physics & Astronomy, Electrical & Systems Engineering, Neurology, and Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. She is known for her innovative approach to blending neural systems engineering to identify fundamental mechanisms of cognition and disease in human brain networks. Bassett holds a B.S. in Physics from Penn State University and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Churchill Scholar and NIH Health Sciences Scholar. Following her doctoral work, she completed a postdoctoral position at UC Santa Barbara, serving as a Junior Research Fellow at the Sage Center for the Study of Mind. Throughout her career, Bassett has received numerous accolades, including the American Psychological Association's ‘Rising Star’ award and the MacArthur Fellow Genius Grant. She has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and has received significant funding from several prestigious institutions. Currently, her research focuses on the dynamic changes in network architecture in both physical and biological systems, examining aspects such as synchronization dynamics, brain connectivity, and how network topology influences system function.
