Dr. Danial Chitnis

Biography

Danial Chitnis is a Chancellor's Fellow and Lecturer at the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His research focuses on developing new tools and paradigms for AI-assisted design and test automation within Electronics engineering. Previously, he conducted research in optoelectronics, particularly on Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) arrays and biomedical communication systems. Danial received his BSc in Electronics Engineering from Chamran University of Ahvaz, Iran in 2007, followed by an MSc in Microelectronics System Engineering from the University of Bristol in 2009. He completed his DPhil in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford in 2013, where he worked on designs for SPAD arrays, successfully integrating them with CMOS imaging systems. In 2013, he joined the UCL Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, pioneering wearable optical brain imaging systems using advanced photodetection and digital systems. In 2017, he became a Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on Quantum Technology Hub projects and teaching courses in Integrated Circuit design. His academic work is complemented by a strong focus on developing detector systems for applications in quantum physics and commercial imaging.
