Biography

Daniel S. Alessi joined the Jackson School of Geosciences in 2025 after serving for 12 years as a professor at the University of Alberta in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. His research group specializes in environmental geochemistry and geomicrobiology, focusing on developing technologies for critical minerals extraction and understanding the surface chemistry reactivity of environmental materials such as pyrogenic carbon, iron oxides, bacteria, and clays.
