Biography

Daniel Andersson is a Professor in Scandinavian Languages with a focus on North Scandinavian Studies at Umeå University. His research qualifications include the title of Docent. His interdisciplinary research encompasses a variety of themes including language, culture, and the socio-linguistic dynamics of northern Sweden. He has conducted studies on dialectal proverbs that shed light on the agrarian society of older times in northern Sweden, as well as contemporary language policy issues. His interest also extends to toponymy in multilingual areas, exploring written narratives from the period of settler colonization in the 18th and 19th centuries. Andersson served as the head of the Department of Language Studies during the autumn semester of 2017 and currently holds a full-time position that is set to expire in spring 2025. He has led research projects such as 'Naming Narrating Places: Empowering Sami Traditions and Identities through Popular Place-Making Processes' and 'Nature Narrated: A Study of Oral Narratives from an Environmental and Linguistic Ethnographic Perspective.'
