Biography

Daniel Bachovchin is a chemical biologist and Geoffrey Beene Junior Faculty Chair at the Sloan Kettering Institute, leading the Bachovchin Lab within the Chemical Biology Program. His research focuses on the use of chemical cell biology approaches to understand core mechanisms of innate immunity. Specifically, he investigates the molecular pathways involved in the formation of inflammasomes, crucial components of the immune system that detect intracellular danger signals and instigate pyroptotic cell death. Bachovchin's work aims to elucidate how inflammatory responses are activated within the immune system, thereby contributing to the development of innovative cancer therapies that target these pathways. He holds a PhD from the Scripps Research Institute and an AB from Harvard College, bringing a robust academic foundation to his research. Bachovchin has received various awards for his contributions to science and education, including the David P. Hajjar Excellence Teaching and Mentoring Award.
