Biography

Dr. Daniel William Bradford is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University, with a focus on mental health services for individuals with serious mental illnesses, particularly psychotic disorders. He served as the National Director of Intensive Community Psychosocial Rehabilitation for the Department of Veterans Affairs from 2012, overseeing the policy development and management of 170 assertive community treatment-based clinical teams serving 15,000 veterans annually. As primary author, he developed the VA national directive on early episode psychosis and currently co-leads a national initiative. In 2022, he accepted the role of Director of the Psychotic Disorders Program in the VA National Expert Consultation Specialized Services (NEXCSS) program, which offers expert consultation and evaluations for cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis. Dr. Bradford has been involved in clinical and administrative work at the Durham VA Medical Center, where he was the founding Division Chief of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Recovery Services from 2014 to 2022. He has also served as the founding Director of the Interprofessional Fellowship in Psychosocial Rehabilitation Recovery Services from 2007 to 2014. Additionally, he is a clinical psychiatrist and resident supervisor in his division. Dr. Bradford is board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He was recognized as an Exemplary Psychiatrist by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 2013.
