Biography

Professor Daniel Cahoy specializes in the teaching and study of intellectual property law, technology law, and general business law concepts. He has published numerous articles in academic law journals on topics including intellectual property, alternative energy policy, and FDA regulatory policy, as well as reforming the U.S. patent system and employing experimental economics to improve jury studies. For the fall 2009 semester, Professor Cahoy was a Fulbright Visiting Chair in International Humanitarian Law at the University of Ottawa in Canada. He served on the Editorial Board of the peer-reviewed American Business Law Journal from 2005 to 2010, including a term as Editor-in-Chief. Professor Cahoy is a Past President of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business and in 2019, he was appointed Research Director of the Smeal Center for Business Sustainability at Penn State, where he oversees grants and research seminars in corporate social responsibility and sustainability. A licensed patent attorney, he has practiced complex patent litigation in New York City and has worked with notable clients such as Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Bausch & Lomb. He is also an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
