Biography

Daniel W. Chan, Ph.D., is a Professor of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University and Director of the Clinical Chemistry Division and Pathology Core Laboratory at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is recognized as an expert in cancer biomarkers, clinical proteomics, and molecular diagnostics. His significant contributions include the FDA approval of the CA27.29 serum assay for breast cancer recurrence and the development of the OVA1 test for ovarian cancer, among many other innovations. Chan has authored over 300 scientific articles and several books focusing on immunoassays and tumor markers. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to clinical chemistry education and research. Chan is also a leader in the development of proteomic biomarkers through the Center for Biomarker Discovery and Translation, which he founded. He actively participates in various academic and professional organizations, having served as chair of the Proteomics Division of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and as editor-in-chief of the journal Clinical Proteomics.
