Biography

Daniel Chirot is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies. He has authored numerous books focusing on social change, ethnic nationalist conflicts, and the political landscape of Eastern Europe, as well as tyranny. His noteworthy works include co-authoring "Kill: Political Mass Murder" published by Princeton University Press in 2010, and he is set to release a book titled "Shape New: Four Big Ideas Made Modern World" in the spring of 2015, also by Princeton University Press. Chirot has extensively edited and co-edited works related to the decline of Leninism, the role of entrepreneurial ethnic minorities, ethnopolitical warfare, and the economic history of Eastern Europe, including the memories of World War II. He teaches courses on American security policies and founded the journal "East European Politics and Societies". His research has benefited from support from notable foundations such as the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, and the Mellon Foundation, alongside consulting for the government and NGOs in Eastern Europe and West Africa.
