Biography

Daniel Cohnitz holds the chair of Theoretical Philosophy at Utrecht University. He studied philosophy, German literature, and language, as well as the history of philosophy at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Medieval History. He has worked at the Institute of Philosophy in Düsseldorf and at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2005, he defended his dissertation on Thought Experiments in Philosophy (Gedankenexperimente der Philosophie) in Düsseldorf. From 2006 to 2015, he served as a professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Tartu in Estonia. Since January 2016, he has been a professor of Theoretical Philosophy at Utrecht University. His research interests focus on topics such as Metaphilosophy, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Mathematics, and Logic, as well as their intersections with Cognitive Science.
