Biography

Daniel J. Cosgrove is a Professor at the Eberly College of Science with a focus on the mechanisms of plant cell growth. His research centers on cellular molecular mechanisms of cell expansion and employs a variety of techniques, including biophysical, biochemical, and molecular methods, combined with whole-plant measurements. Current projects involve studying wall loosening proteins known as expansins, characterized as a conserved family of proteins that facilitate the extension of plant cell walls. In addition to this, Cosgrove investigates the structure and molecular biophysics of expansins, particularly in the context of grass pollen allergens, which have been shown to have a significant role in seasonal asthma. With a Ph.D. from Stanford University and a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, his expertise includes bioinformatics, cell biology, genetics, genomics, molecular, cellular integrative biosciences, phylogenetics, and plant biology.
