Dr. Daniel Davis

Biography

Daniel M. Davis is the Head of the Department of Life Sciences and Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London. He is the author of four popular science books, published by Penguin Random House, including 'Self Defence: A Myth-Busting Guide to Immune Health', which was published in June 2025. Before his current role, Davis was a Professor of Immunology at the University of Manchester and served as Director of Research at the Manchester Collaborative Centre for Inflammation Research, which is funded by the University of Manchester and pharmaceutical companies like AstraZeneca and GSK. He earned his doctorate in Physics and conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University on the human immune system, becoming a Professor of Immunology by the age of 35 at Imperial College London. Davis has made significant contributions to the field by pioneering nanoscale biology techniques to observe immune cell interactions and protein recognition processes. His dedication to public science communication is reflected in his participation in literary and music festivals, and he has contributed to prominent publications such as The Guardian and Scientific American. His books have received accolades from notable figures including Bill Bryson and Nobel laureate Venki Ramakrishnan, and he has authored 145 academic papers, collectively cited 14,000 times, marking him as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
