Biography

Daniel Dempsey is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Biophysics. His research focuses on understanding the basic biological mechanisms of proteins essential for human health and disease. Dempsey's lab investigates the structure, function, and regulation of proteins involved in cell signaling, epigenetics, and gene regulation. His team employs chemical, semi-synthetic, biophysical, and cellular approaches to elucidate how post-translational modifications (PTMs) regulate protein function. Current investigations include the function and regulation of deubiquitinases and RNA-modifying proteins, which are emerging as significant therapeutic targets in cancer treatment. Through this research, Dempsey aims to shed light on the mechanistic consequences of PTMs and their dysregulation, paving the way for the rational design of new therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.
