Biography

Daniel DiMaio is focused on studying the molecular mechanisms by which human papillomaviruses (HPV) enter cells, with an emphasis on identifying cellular proteins that mediate viral entry and trafficking. His work extends to the development of artificial small transmembrane proteins with various biological activities. DiMaio's laboratory has made significant contributions to understanding the interactions between the bovine papillomavirus E5 protein and the platelet-derived growth factor beta receptor, revealing insights into tumorigenicity and receptor activation. His research also involves utilizing RNA interference techniques to identify cellular genes necessary for the infection of tumor viruses, contributing to the understanding of HPV entry and infection processes.
