Biography

Daniel Erker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and the Department of Romance Studies at Boston University. He earned an MA in Linguistics from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and a PhD in Linguistics from New York University. Erker is the director of the federally-funded Spanish Boston Project, which investigates the sociolinguistic behavior of Spanish-speaking Bostonians. His research has been published in leading linguistic journals such as Language, Lingua, Language Variation and Change, and Language in Society, and has been featured in the Boston Globe and on NPR. In addition to his research, he teaches courses on language variation and change, Spanish in the United States, the biological evolution of language, and the relationship between language and music and identity.
