Biography

Daniel R. Fischel is the Lee Brena Freeman Professor Emeritus of Law and Business at the University of Chicago Law School. He earned his JD cum laude from the University of Chicago Law School in 1977 and was a Comment Editor for the University of Chicago Law Review. Fischel also clerked for Judge Thomas E. Fairchild of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Potter Stewart of the Supreme Court. He began his academic career at Northwestern University Law School in 1980, where he was a faculty member until 1984 when he permanently joined the University of Chicago faculty. Fischel has served as Dean of the Law School from 1999 to 2001. His education includes a BA in American History from Cornell University and an MA in American History from Brown University. His research interests encompass corporations, corporate finance, and financial market regulation. He has published numerous articles in these fields and has been actively involved in various professional organizations and conferences.
