Biography

Daniel Freund is an Associate Professor of Operations Management at MIT Sloan School of Management. His research applies optimization, stochastic modeling, and revenue management techniques to transportation problems, online platforms, and humanitarian immigration issues. His scholarly work has been recognized by several accolades, including the PSOR Paper Award (2nd place, 2024), the MSOM OM Paper Award (2023), the Applied Probability Society Publication Award (2021), the George B. Dantzig Dissertation Award (2018), and the Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research Analytics (2018). He served on the program committees of various conferences in operations research. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Warwick (UK) and a Master’s and Doctorate in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University, where he was advised by David B. Shmoys. Prior to joining MIT, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Lyft's Marketplace Labs team.
