Daniel Gough is a biochemist and cancer biologist heading the STAT Cancer Biology laboratory at the Centre for Cancer Research, Monash Institute of Medical Research. His research primarily focuses on the signal transduction pathways that involve Signal Transducer Activator Transcription (STAT) proteins, particularly their impact on normal developmental pathways and cancer immunity. After completing a B.Sc in 2000, and B.Sc(Hons) in 2001 at the University of Melbourne, he obtained his Ph.D. in 2006 at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His postdoctoral training took place at New York University under Professor David E. Levy, where he defined the mitochondrial metabolic role of STAT3 in cancers driven by Ras mutations. In 2012, Daniel returned to Australia to establish his laboratory. He actively supervises PhD students and is involved in collaborative projects aimed at developing new therapies to improve patient outcomes in small cell lung cancer. His work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to enhance educational initiatives and research collaboration in cancer therapy.
