Daniel Grégoire is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Biochemistry at Carleton University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa. His current research focuses on applying fundamental approaches with microbes as part of sustainable environmental clean-up strategies. A key aspect of his work involves examining how microbes control the fate of pollutants in contaminated habitats. Daniel's team combines microbial physiology, genetic manipulation, metabolite analyses, and whole-community sequencing to address research questions. He collaborates closely with industry and government partners to study the biogeochemistry of electronic waste, landfills, and contaminated groundwater systems. His recent efforts are concentrated on studying metals, plastics, and the expanded challenge of “forever chemicals” such as PFAS, with the ultimate goal of translating findings into sustainable waste reclamation strategies that protect environmental and human health.
