Dr. Daniel Hsu

Biography

Daniel Hsu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he also serves as the Associate Director of the Data Science Institute. His research focuses on algorithmic statistics and machine learning, particularly in designing efficient algorithms for learning and data analysis. He aims to understand the limits of efficient computation for various tasks. Daniel completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego, and received his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley. He has held postdoctoral positions in Statistics at Rutgers University and the University of Pennsylvania, and at Microsoft Research New England. In 2015, he was selected as one of the AI's 10 to watch by IEEE Intelligent Systems, and in 2016, he was awarded the Sloan Research Fellowship. His Ph.D. advisor was Sanjoy Dasgupta at UCSD, and he had postdoctoral mentors including Sham Kakade and Tong Zhang.
