Daniel Huber began his academic career with a degree in Zoology from the University of Zurich in 1998, followed by a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Lausanne in 2005. He then moved to the United States for a post-doctoral fellowship at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the Janelia Research Campus in Virginia, focusing on sensory motor circuits in the cortex. In 2012, after being awarded a professorial fellowship by the Swiss National Science Foundation, he returned to Switzerland to establish his laboratory in the Department of Basic Neurosciences at the University of Geneva. Huber has secured prestigious grants, including an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Union, which has enabled him to further his research on sensory motor neuroprosthetics for the hand. He has been an assistant professor since 2012 and was appointed associate professor in June 2019. In 2022, he became the Director of the Interfaculty Neuroscience Centre and also serves as the delegate for the Dean's Office on digital issues.
