Biography

Daniel E. Kaufmann leads a research group at the Research Center of the University Hospital of Montreal (CRCHUM) and is an associate member of the Ragon Institute at MGH, MIT, and Harvard in Boston. He has clinical responsibilities as a supervising physician in the department of microbiology and infectious diseases at CHUM. Dr. Kaufmann studied medicine at the universities of Lausanne and Zurich in Switzerland, specializing in internal medicine and infectious diseases. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, he was promoted to faculty at Harvard Medical School. His research significantly contributed to understanding immune regulation and dysfunction mechanisms of T cells in HIV infection. Since November 2012, Dr. Kaufmann has been recruited at CRCHUM where he continues his academic career in the departments of medicine and microbiology, infectious diseases, and immunology at the University of Montreal. His research is funded by prestigious institutions such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the National Institutes of Health in the US, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation.
