Daniel P. Kiehart is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Duke University, where he has held a faculty position since 2000. He serves as the Chief of the Division of Developmental Biology and is actively engaged in research focused on the determinants of cell shape and function during development, utilizing molecular genetic and reverse genetic approaches in Drosophila. His work has importantly contributed to understanding the role of nonmuscle myosin in driving cell division and post-mitotic cell shape changes during morphogenesis. Currently, he investigates the signaling pathways and regulatory mechanisms of myosin that lead to cell shape changes, including filament formation and phosphorylation. Over his academic career, Kiehart has been awarded multiple grants for his research, including training programs in developmental and stem cell biology. He is also affiliated with the Duke Regeneration Center and the Duke Initiative for Science & Society.
