Biography

Daniel Klerman holds the Edward G. Lewis Chair at USC Gould School of Law and serves as the Director of the Center of Law & Social Science. He teaches courses in Civil Procedure, Property, Concepts of American Law, and English Legal History. Klerman's scholarship is focused on Civil Procedure and English Legal History, with significant contributions to the intersection of law and economics. His notable publications include 'Forum Selling' in the Southern California Law Review (2016), 'Settlement World: Settlement Rates of the Largest Economies' in the Journal of Legal Analysis (2022), and 'Jurisdictional Competition in the Evolution of Common Law' in the University of Chicago Law Review (2007). Klerman has received several awards, including the Student Bar Association Faculty Appreciation Award in 2014 and the Sutherland Prize from the American Society for Legal History in 2004. He is a former Board member of the American Law & Economics Association and co-president of the Society for Empirical Legal Studies. Klerman has an extensive academic background, having taught at prestigious institutions such as the University of Chicago Law School, Harvard Law School, and Stanford Law School. He received his BA from Yale University and earned both his JD and PhD in History from the University of Chicago.
