Biography

Daniel Lacroix is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, a Master of Applied Science, and a Doctorate in Civil Engineering, all from the University of Ottawa in Canada. His primary research interests focus on studying the behavior of mid- to high-rise wood structures subjected to extreme loading conditions, such as earthquakes, blasts, and impacts. He specializes in structural dynamic performance of wood systems, especially under blast and impact loading, and in strengthening and retrofitting wood structural elements using fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP). He is also involved in modeling the behavior of wood members at high strain rates. Additional research interests include the structural performance of lateral load resisting systems, modern innovative timber connections, resilient design of structures, and the evaluation of timber members and engineered wood products under various strain rates.
