Biography

Daniel Dongyuel Lee is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell Tech and serves as the Executive Vice President of Samsung Research. He previously held the position of the UPS Foundation Chair Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Lee earned his A.B. summa cum laude in Physics from Harvard University and obtained his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995. His academic journey includes roles at AT&T and Lucent Technologies, where he focused on Theoretical Physics and Biological Computation. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and has received the National Science Foundation CAREER award, along with the Lindback Award for distinguished teaching. Lee has also been a fellow at the Hebrew University Institute of Advanced Studies in Jerusalem and is affiliated with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He has organized significant conferences including the US-Japan National Academy of Engineering Frontiers of Engineering Symposium and the Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference. His research interests center on understanding general computational principles of biological systems to create autonomous systems.
