Biography

Daniel D. Lee is a Tisch University Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell Tech and Cornell Engineering. He served as the global head of artificial intelligence at Samsung Research. Lee received his B.A. summa cum laude in physics from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has previously worked as a researcher at Bell Labs in theoretical physics and biological computation departments. In addition, Lee was a visiting scholar at the Korea Institute of Advanced Studies and has organized significant engineering symposiums, including the U.S.-Japan National Academy of Engineering Frontiers of Engineering symposium and the Neural Information Processing Systems conference. He is a fellow of both the IEEE and AAAI and has received the NSF CAREER award and the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. His research group focuses on understanding the general computational principles of biological systems and applying that knowledge to build autonomous systems.
