Biography

Daniel Lidar is the holder of the Viterbi Professorship of Engineering at the University of Southern California, specializing in quantum information processing. He has joint appointments in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemistry, and Physics & Astronomy. Lidar directs the USC Center for Quantum Information Science & Technology, the USC-IBM Quantum Innovation Center, and co-directs the USC Center for Quantum Computing. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Physics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1997, he completed postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley. Before joining USC in 2005, he was a faculty member at the University of Toronto for five years. His research primarily concentrates on quantum error correction, open quantum systems, quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning, and quantum control. Lidar has been recognized by various prestigious awards, including being named an Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association Fellow and a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He has made significant contributions to the field, focusing on topics such as superconducting qubits and quantum phase transitions.
