Biography

Daniel Nabil Maroun is an Assistant Professor in the Department of French & Italian at the University of Illinois. His research interests include Applied Linguistics, Gender Queer Studies, and Minority Migration Studies, with a particular focus on the intersection of sexuality, race, and citizenship. He is particularly concerned with how individuals navigate issues of sexual identity and citizenship within familial structures and social contexts in France and their native homes. His work explores the literary and cultural responses to HIV/AIDS in France, emphasizing corporeal representation and the role of language in shaping the understanding of the body. Maroun has co-edited special issues of the journal Contemporary French Civilization, addressing issues of corporeality and the language of the global French-speaking world. He is currently preparing a monograph on the politics of filiation and queer forms of belonging in relation to universalist ideologies of citizenship. In addition to his teaching and research, Maroun serves as an Assistant Editor for Contemporary French Civilization and is involved with the Steering Committee of the DDFC Collective. He has received several awards for his essays and is currently recognized as a faculty fellow.
