Biography

Daniel Maynard's research lies at the intersection of community ecology and macroecology, utilizing a broad array of experimental and statistical approaches to understand how biodiversity is maintained in hyper-diverse ecosystems. He has a particular interest in the structure and function of forest communities, developing tools to forecast how complex systems will respond and adapt to anthropogenic disturbances in the coming century. As part of the People & Nature Lab within the Centre for Biodiversity and Environment Research (CBER) at UCL East, he addresses challenges related to biodiversity loss, ecosystem degradation, and climate change. Originally trained as a mathematician, he received his master's degree in biostatistics from Harvard University in 2006 and transitioned to ecology, earning a master's degree in Natural Resources from the University of New Hampshire and a PhD in Ecology from Yale University in 2017, focusing on the interactions that affect the structure and function of woodland fungal communities.
