Biography

Daniel E. Michele is the John Jacquez Collegiate Professor of Physiology at the University of Michigan Medical School, where he serves as Chair of the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology. He completed his PhD at the University of Michigan in 2000 and subsequently trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Iowa, focusing on muscular dystrophy research. In 2004, he joined the University of Michigan as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Michele has contributed significantly to the understanding of the mechanisms behind muscular dystrophy and cardiomyopathies, often using gene-targeted mouse models and human patient samples for his research. His laboratory specifically studies the roles that the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex plays in muscular dystrophy, including the cellular mechanisms and functional implications of its disruptions. He has taken leadership roles within the Frankel Cardiovascular Center and currently directs the Physiology Phenotyping Core. Dr. Michele is also involved in various editorial boards and has previously served on the scientific advisory board of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. His dedication to both research and education contributes to the transformation of lives through innovative discoveries and compassionate care.
