Biography

Daniel Mitchell is currently a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow's James Watt School of Engineering. He received his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 2024, where he was awarded the Sir Alan Stirling Brown Award. In 2024, he was a Visiting Student Researcher at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In 2020, he completed his Master's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with distinction from Heriot-Watt University. His research focuses on symbiotic multi-robot fleets, addressing challenges in robotic teams with human-in-the-loop operators. Additionally, he develops novel dual application sensing mechanisms that utilize non-destructive sensing for asset integrity inspection and foresight monitoring of robotic platforms. Mitchell is an award-winning researcher; in 2024 he was named a Rising Star in Cyber-Physical Systems by the University of Virginia and received the IET Rising Star Award at the IET Excellence and Innovation Awards. In 2019, he worked as part of MicroSense Technologies Ltd, developing novel radar sensing technologies and collaborating with the Offshore Robotics Certification Assets (ORCA) Hub.
