Biography

Daniel studied Molecular Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid in Spain and completed his PhD cum laude in the Viral DNA Replication Group at the Centre of Molecular Biology Severo Ochoa, under the supervision of Dr. Margarita Salas. He worked as a visiting student at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford, UK. He was awarded the I3P Fellowship by the Spanish National Research Council to conduct postdoctoral research on DNA replication, resulting in several first- and corresponding authored papers, including five published in PNAS and the EMBO Journal. He later moved to the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Dr. Manuel Serrano's group, where his work was published in high-impact journals such as Cell and Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology. In 2016, Dr. Muñoz-Espín joined the Department of Oncology at the University of Cambridge as a Senior Research Associate and Principal Investigator in the Early Detection Programme of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre. His current research focuses on lung cancer, studying the underlying processes that contribute to its initiation and progression and developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
