Biography

Daniel S. Nagin is the Teresa H. John Heinz III University Professor of Public Policy in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University. His academic work began after he received his Ph.D. in 1976 from the Heinz School. He has previously served as the Associate Dean of the School. As a recognized expert in his field, Nagin has held distinguished positions such as being the incoming editor of Criminology & Public Policy and chairing the National Research Council's Committee on Deterrence and the Death Penalty. He has also worked as the Deputy Secretary of Fiscal Policy Analysis at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue from 1981 to 1986. Nagin has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Criminology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and he was awarded the American Society of Criminology's Edwin H. Sutherland Award in 2006 for his significant research contributions. He also received the Northeastern Association of Tax Administrators Award for Excellence in Tax Administration in 1985.
