Biography

Daniel Nielson is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies for Executive Education. He holds a PhD from the University of California – San Diego, obtained in 1997. His research interests heavily focus on International Development, particularly foreign aid, control of corruption, and International Organizations. Nielson specializes in using transnational field experiments to learn about the causal effects in political economy. He has contributed to significant literature in the field, including co-authoring ‘Global Shell Games: Experiments in Transnational Relations, Crime, and Terrorism’ published by Cambridge University Press, as well as directing research initiatives via AidData and the Global Politics Lab. Nielson has held a courtesy appointment at Brigham Young University and has published extensively in leading journals including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, American Journal of Political Science, and International Organization. His teaching covers several topics, including African Politics and Seminar Field Experiments.
