Dr. Daniel O Connor

Biography

Daniel O’Connor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Carleton University, an MA in Sociology from the University of Manitoba, and a BA in Criminology from the University of Manitoba. His research primarily focuses on areas such as security, policing, governance, and law. O'Connor has explored the role of international agencies in restructuring systems of criminal law and justice, as well as the intricacies of interstate governance and border security in North America and Europe. His teaching areas include social theory, punishment, security, and the sociology of culture, media, and communications. O'Connor has published numerous articles and books, contributing significant work to the understanding of how governance and security issues intersect, especially in the context of popular culture and policing. His selected publications include works on food security resilience, border governance, and critical analyses of development aid in Haiti. He is involved in various research projects and has received multiple research grants to support his work in the fields of security and governance.
