Biography

Daniel Orrells studied Classics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University of Cambridge. He taught at the University of Warwick for eleven years and was a Humboldt Fellow at Humboldt University in Berlin. He joined King’s College London in 2015, where his research focuses on the history and interpretation of classical literature. His work examines the literary, scholarly, and cultural receptions of Greek and Latin literature from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century. He specializes in Classical Literature, Literary/Critical Theory, Modern European Literature, Classical Antiquity, History, Gender and Sexuality in the Ancient World, and Postcolonial Literature Theory. At King's, he supervises a range of MA and PhD students in Classical Literature and Classical Reception Studies. He is enthusiastic about hearing from potential students interested in Greek literature and Literary/Critical Theory. Orrells is also involved in public engagement, giving lectures in museums and schools, and participating in interdisciplinary projects regarding LGBTQ+ policymaking in the UK.
