Biography

Daniel Rainer obtained his BSc from the Vienna University of Technology and his MSc from the Technical University of Denmark. He completed his PhD studies at the University of St Andrews under the supervision of Professor Russell E. Morris, focusing on the synthesis of zeolites obtained via the ADOR process, employing alternative methods of mechanochemistry. His research emphasized the characterization of materials using novel electron diffraction techniques. After his doctoral work, he took a postdoctoral position at Charles University in Prague, which allowed him to expand his knowledge and expertise in electron microscopy, particularly in characterizing catalysts and porous materials like zeolites using SEM, TEM, and STEM. In his current role as a Specialist Technician in Electron Diffraction at the University of Southampton, he acts as the main operator of the electron diffractometer, which is part of the UK National Electron Diffraction Facility (NEDF) and plays a crucial role in the UK National Crystallography Service (NCS) in collaboration with the University of Southampton and the University of Warwick.
